Not long to go now until we are back in the woods for our ever popular Holiday Forest Schools, and with Saltaire selling out we now only have places available to book at St Ives and Ilkley. We are so excited to head back to some of our favourite spots for the last time in 2024! Get Out More have partnered up with the Highfield Community Association to deliver Play Futures, a free programme for adults in West Yorkshire who are unemployed and are looking to return to work. Play Futures is a skills-based programme supporting people towards outdoor careers in the community such as in play work, youth work or outdoor education.

Its a fantastic chance to gain qualifications in forest school, safeguarding and food hygiene, along with plenty of opportunities for work placements.

We had another successful summer delivering the Holiday Activities and Food programme, with children on free school meals in Keighley having access to a host of activities and trips. Studley Royal and Fountains Abbey was one of the highlights for staff and children, where the children got to see at least three different species of deer!

Our Saturday sessions returned once again with the start of term, and have been off to a flyer with plenty of new children taking some of their first steps into forest school. We have just a few sessions left at St Mary's Riddlesden before we head over to the Good Shepherd Centre for the winter months.

Annie has been hard at work preparing, delivering and assessing the Forest School Level 1 and 3 training courses. With two level 1 courses delivered in September alone! It's been a real pleasure supporting budding forest school practitioners, and we hope to see some of them again when it comes to recruiting for the next level 3 course!

The Gateway to Nature programme kicked off six months ago, and it's been a busy but steady start, with plenty of new projects and opportunities to connect with organisations and communities around Keighley. We have seen afterschool clubs like Up-Skill go from strength to strength at Within the Wood, with children at the JAMES project getting stuck in with axe throwing, archery, whittling and loads more!

Our parent and toddler group, Mini Explorers has remained a hit, even with the turn of the weather.  Other collaborations with Carers Resource and the Highfield Centre are ticking along nicely.

Five months in to our move to The Gatehouse at Cliffe Castle and the vision is really starting to take shape as a community hub. It is still early days but it has been a joy seeing the space used for training courses or an indoor space for our community sessions.  There is certainly a buzz around the office when we have projects running!

We are also in the process of upgrading the office, with dedicated, fully fitted training and meeting resources on the horizon.  Watch this space for bookings!
